Hi dear people. I didn’t really know where to ask about this, so I just decided to put it here. So, I realized not long ago that people cannot connect me because my ports are not forwarded. and so I checked what router is on my network, I realized it is a routerboard 411 model what my ISP installed. I tried to log into it with winbox to see if I can open ports with it, but apparently the default password which should be nothing is changed and I can’t log in. Now I think the ISP changed it when they set it up, and i read I can only reset it if i reinstall the OS on the board. So I would like to ask as a totally newbie to the matter, are there any dangers to reinstalling a set up router? If all the settings disappear, can I lose my internet connection too? Or no bad thing can happen if I reinstall it and reset password? Im just afraid I gonna mess up my internet connection by some stupid mistake. Otherwise if there are no dangers I would like to reinstall it and see if I can do something about opening ports.. that’s possible right?
yes, you would lose all config, and you would have to re-apply all settings your ISP needs. Thinks like IP address, routes, maybe VLAN information, maybe something more. It depends on the ISP and how complicated their network is. The best thing to do, would be to tell them about your problem, and they will apply the config for you.
