Newbie question: Bridge and compress

Hi, currently I’m using two mikrotiks to form a WAN bridge between my two sites.

192.168.101.x and 192.168.102.x - I’m using PPTP and EOIP

  1. Somebody told me this was an ‘old’ way of doing it, what should I use these days?

  2. Can I enable compression (latency isn’t an issue, but file system and replication traffic is largely uncompressed and very easy to compress). I realise this may slow the box down a bit, is there a roll-off capable or any compression system for WANs?

what is old ?

If you have wireless links, than configure compression:
‘interface wireless set wlan1 compression=yes’.

If not, follow this link:
http://www.mikrotik.com/docs/ros/2.9/ip/m3p

Nope, just looking for compression on my Inter company WAN. Not wireless, mine is a simple IP over Internet. That link refers to ‘overhead on packets compression’ i need good old fashioned data compression (payload compression)
