Hi
I am relatively new to this (Wifi) ..I use to be AN ISP 1998 to 2001
I want to create a network 4 Mile that is obstructed by 2 buildings (No trees) The buildings arent huge (Probably no more then 100 ft in width ) and the buildings obstruct / block about by 40 ft in height. These buildings block the LOS about .5 mile from a end.
Would the XR9 or SR9 work ? of even the SR7 .. I am in Australia .. I want to try to put something in for under $1000 all up .
Any combo’s that would work ? or suggestions for stuff to put in ..
Thanks for all your help ..
Yes I realise that . .I need to bridge (whatever the network between 2 points)
It doesnt have to be ABGN .. no customers will be accessing it as I said simply to bridge extend a network is all
2 mbs would be fine ..
900Mhz is about the only other option you have (other than wimax 3.5ghz) And I dont even think that will go through buildings, exp if they have like steal/tin in them. good luck buddy.
If 900 is clean, try it. We routinely deploy 900 links where there is no line of sight, whether the 1/4 mile thick forest that is 60 feet high is there or not
I hope with the good gain we can overcome any NLOS .. I posted the link for the antenna FYI I hadnt seen a 900mhz that gain .
The Antenna goes from 850 mhz to 950 mhz ..
Also does anyone have a default setup ? I have done heaps and heaps of networking but no wifi yet ..
900Mhz shouldnt pose that much of a problem for you, provided there is enough clean spectrum. Remember lots of paging sites and utility companies use this space because of its excellent “range qualities”. There is no default setup, but you’d more than likely have to use a divided or quartered’ channel width - i.e 10mhz or 5mhz and also the nstreme protocol (2500 I found is an ideal framing size) (my 900mhz links wouldn’t function for the life of nothing without it) - ALSO just as important be sure to use horizontal polarity if your antenna supports it as 99%’ of 900mhz interference comes from vertical antennas of the same frequency.
Just remember than 900mhz isnt the magic frequency and that you’d have to aim/adjust links like any other and you’d be cool…
If you need to know how to set the routerboards to station,ap-bridge or some other mode there are tons of info and examples in the wiki or manual…
Oh and dont stand in front of the antenna when active
