Hi all,
I am using RB951G-2HnD [Newbie] just exploring it as of now. I have come across an interesting problem, quite oftenly it fails to get a valid IP Address and hence it becomes un-accessible. I have been facing this issue since yesterday now and have even Rebooted the device couple of times with no success.
I want to know if this is a good device to be deployed in a professional setup? my requirement is not high BUT is critical - no more than 10 systems need be monitored over 2/3 WAN connections.
Thanks in Advance, for your comments.
Can you provide a little detail on how you’re using the device? DHCP Client is on the LAN/WAN or bridge interface?
Mikrtok’s work great in a professional environment. In my opinion, Mikrotik’s are better than Cisco due to feature set, flexibility, consistent gui over models and troubleshooting tools.
If an interface is requesting for a DHCP IP and it’s not getting one, I’d use Tools > Packet Sniffer to track DHCP packets. This will tell you if the Mikrotik is sending out requests, if and how many servers are responding, if the Mikrotik accepts an offer, etc.
Also check logging and turn on logging for DHCP.
