MikroTik, if you are going to provide a wall mount:
Make sure standard size screws fit in the slots easily.
Make sure the bottom of the case doesn’t pop off easily so it stays on the wall.
Orient the network cable connections so the release tabs are NOT against the wall.
MikroTik, provide manuals:
Sure - things should be simple so we can avoid huge manuals, and I realize MikroTik is a ‘green’ company, but you can provide a link to a PDF for FREE!
Printed instructions on the box bottom for using the RB750 as a simple hub are useless. No one buys the RB750 as a simple router. They buy it for MultiPPP.
It makes zero sense to wait for someone to complain, and then provide them. It upsets your customers, and wastes your time. (Here they are again in case someone else is looking for them and landed here.) http://routerboard.com/pricelist/download_file.php?file_id=295 (Without knowing the URL, I can’t find this on RouterBoard.com. Why is it not on Mikrotik.com and why do you hide it on RouterBoard.com?) http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Category:Manual#list
We made some changes in the WebFig interface, and gave up. We decided to start over. Best way to do that is to do a factory reset. WHAT A NIGHTMARE! I have no idea if we were successful or not, but now we can no longer reach the web interface at 192.168.88.1. When connecting, I see the request for an IP etc, and that we are connected to the 750. But, no web interface.
Make sure standard size screws fit in the slots easily.
What’s a “standard sized” screw? Any screw should fit there, the opening is 6.5mm. Most screws that are shorter than 10cm (4in) have a head with this size.
Make sure the bottom of the case doesn’t pop off easily so it stays on the wall.
we will see how to improve this. our new products actually have slightly different closing mechanism, maybe we can use it for this one as well.
Orient the network cable connections so the release tabs are NOT against the wall.
sorry, but that’s not possible. the ports can’t be turned upside down, their connectors are on that side. this is how the standard ethernet connectors are made. what we could so, is make the board mounted upside down inside the case. that’s an idea for future products.
I can’t find this on RouterBoard.com Without knowing the URL (..)
about problems with webfig (i presume Skins configuration) - you can enter design mode and when necessary skin is selected, push Reset button that will reset json file to its defaults. Also, deleting all json files and then logging in with user that can create skins, and save default skin again.
Well, I was looking for a MANUAL, not a ‘Brochure’ or a ‘Quick Guide’.
You state; "this one is linked from inside of the first manual (the PDF). "
I think you are referring to the ‘Brochure’, which is nothing close to a manual, and it has no links. The second one is called a ‘Quick Guide’ which has 2 links; one is for the RMA process and it is a proper link. The other is for ‘First Time Start Up’ and is not a proper link. I can’t even cut and paste it. (Try it) Both those reasons are why I likely never went there. Having said that, I have seen the page before; it is useless. The RB750 does not have a serial connection, and I am running Linux, so I was looking for a web interface, not Winbox.
MultiPPP, MLPPP MultiLink PPP, Bonded DSL. Call it what you want, but I am sure you know what I am talking about. My search did find the only page related to MLPPP, which I gave you a link to, which says pretty much nothing. If you know a different name for it, and can point me to the proper section of the manual, THAT is what I am looking for!
People looking for a ‘Manual’ should be able to find it under ‘Manual’. Not ‘Quick Guide’ and then be expected to type in the URL for a broken link hoping that it will bring them to what they want even though the link is titled something else. “How hard can that be?”
Thank you, we have corrected the PDF and the links are working now.
There is a web interface, open the IP address in your browser.
If you search for MLPPP you do find the information you need.
Manual - what you call Manual, others call User Guide, Documentation, Instructions and other words. This is not a thesaurus, we use one of the generally accepted terms that is understood also by our international customers.
Yes - I found the WebFig interface and have spent a LOT of time in it over the past few days. However, I now suspect that there is more (required) functionality in the Winbox app, than in the WebFig interface. Next attempt I will use Winbox … just got to find a Windows box, or install Wine.
If you find anything specific that is missing in Webfig, let us know. In RouterOS v5.5 (make sure you have this version, not older) the functionality is 99% the same. The only missing things are dragging of files to upload, and connection via MAC address.
If you have an older RouterOS version (check in the “system → packages” menu), simply upload this file and reboot with the “system → reboot” command
