I’m trying to setup a notification to send a text message to my cell. However, The Dude won’t accept the email address. The address is in the from of @, ie. 9999999999@carrier.com. I’m not sure how the notification system validates addresses but an address in this form is alwasy invalid acroding to The Dude. We use these email address for notifications from our current monitoring system. We are using The Dude 3.0beta7. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I had an email address with email@server.domain.com i had to set up another email address have the dude send to that and that then forward to the complex mail address. This is a simple bug and should get cleared up.
Agreed that this is a quick fix, which I have also used. However, how am I to notify if my mail server is down and that’s where I’m doing my aliasing for email? I’d really just like to see this fixed or at least an explanation of how The Dude checks for valid email addresses.
I have successfully set up a notification to my cell. The first thing I did was select my type to email. Then I put in my server IP address. This IP needs to be the address of an SMTP server that can relay your emails. You may need to setup the server to accept relays from the machine that TheDude sits on. The “invalid TO address” was not a problem with my to address at all. When I clicked test it went to the SMTP server and tried to send the test message. Because relay was not allowed it failed with the “invalid TO address” error. After I setup the relay to accept forwards from my Dude server it went through just fine. This may not be everyone’s problem but I hope this helps some.
Actually that was my probelm as well. I figured it out a few days after the inital post. I should have posted the solution here… but I got sidetracked
Anyway thanks for the respone!
I’m glad it helped someone.
Ok… I’m running 3 dude servers and I ran into this problem again. I’m so glad I posted the solution over a year ago. Karma baby.
