Nstreme,NV2,802.11 for a PtMP

We need create a new WISP but.. (in mind) but for a high number of subscribers per sector.

What is the best protocol for a ptmp?. Nstreme, NV2, 802.11? the configuration would be in 5Ghz with 60 degree sector antennas horizontally polarized.

You need to have a maximum of subscribers with bandwidths + / - 2Mb each

Thank you,

today is nstreme, tomorrow will be nv2.
the maximum number of users for sector is not a protocol problem.
often is a problem of:

  • noise
  • antenna model
  • radio device model
  • site setup
  • type of cpe
  • accuracy of cpe setup and tracking

How many per sector?
NV2 will give you more clients per sector,
Why horizontal polarity as usually it’s vertical for PtMp,

+/ 80-100 per sector in mind
Horizontal Pol. is selected because vertical polarization is used in many devices in the site, the horizontal is unused.

80 – 100, depending on actual customer daily usage but typically careful bandwidth limiting will be required, for example what I have done is to offer higher speed during normal daytime business hours 7am to 5pm (say 3Mbit) but during peak usage hours 5 to 10pm reduce it to 1Mbit, with ; http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Limit_Different_Bandwidth_In_Day_and_Night
If there are many other devices on site then you will have to use AP’s with good RF screening and placement is critical to reduce pick-up of other signals from these other devices on site, otherwise NV2 which will give more clients per AP and prevents hidden-node issues maybe effected by disconnects.
