NV2 AP + MPLS Performance requirement

Hi,

I am considerung to aggregate Wireless APs using MPLS/VPLS over our routed network. I am wondering if mAntBox 15s is fast enough to handle traffic for 30 Wireless CPEs while beeing a MPLS Edgerouter.

Anyone done this?

Thanks,
Stefan

This depend on speed that your CPE need. ITs possible to do 1000 CPE - but speed goes down. VPLS/EoMPLS dont have annyting to do with “speed” other thant make the l2 network you would probably use without MPLS goes faster and more smooth. MPLS is just a way to implement routing and layer 2 to network. How manny CPE connected to the cloud depends on other things… 30 CPE on one ector might be bit overkilll - but still depends on speed and wireless needs. i would use 2 sectors - 1 having 15 CPE and one having 15 CPE. Then you should be able to give customer 10-15 mb/s each. (depending on the SNR etc)

My concern is if cpu can handle this smooth. Doing MPLS Edge needs some cpu and handling nv2 needs cpu to handle the protocol. So doing both at the AP may increase latency and reduce speed users see. So I asked for someone doing this already.

We have been using MPLS/VPLS with OSPF onto NV2 AP’s (and some are 433AH’s) for well over a year now to great effect but careful selection of Max L2MTU is very important, attached is a screenshot of a 433AH CPU load using MPLS/VPLS with VLAN’s, with over 40 customers but we will be reducing that number as we assign 10Mits to each customer.

Great! Thanks.
