I’ve got a wAP ac that suddenly decided to stick itself in a reboot loop, rebooting every ten seconds. The device is connected to and powered by an RB3011 (PoE port 10). Normally, I would connect the wAP ac to a laptop and do a Netinstall to revert it to factory defaults, but I have no physical access to either the wAP ac or the RB3011 for the next couple of weeks (due to summer holidays).
Is there some way I can get the wAP ac to do a Netinstall from the RB3011? Any other tools or tricks I can use, or is physical presence (reset button hold) my only option?
I also have remote (RDP) access to Windows computers running on the same LAN, but I’m afraid that setting up Netinstall (with static IP for the computer) will kick me out of the RDP access I have. Further, I don’t know if the wAP ac in question will be looking for Netinstall without the physical button push.
Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately, shipping a new one is not really a solution since nobody has physical access to the site before the end of the holidays. If remote Netinstall is impossible, we’ll turn off the PoE and provision an LTE access point until we can get the wAP ac replaced.
Not sure if you have any access or not. With the PoE you have a powerful switch in your hands. But if the boot process restarts before you get in, then it doesn’t help. If you have access for a few seconds, then setting Routerboard boot-device to “try-ethernet-once-then-nand”, might open the Netinstall possibility. Default is “nand-if-fail-then-ethernet” , but how to make the nand fail???
Just only writing down my thoughts. No real knowledge or any experience on this.
Don’t even know what “force-backup-booter=yes” would bring.
Thanks for the input! I haven’t got access for even a split second, the device doesn’t even request an IP address. It continuously power cycles every 10-ish seconds. It seems like physical access is the only way out.
