off-topic - Effect of DST on graphs

This is not MT/ROS specific. If it’s inappropriate, mods please remove and I will know better.

I thought it might be interesting to users here to see what I woke up to today. Here in NY, we have daylight savings time and at 2:00am this morning we turned the clocks back an hour.

I checked some of the many Home Assistant dashboard I use to monitor things at various locations and I noticed an interesting thing about how it graphs data at a time shift.

No questions here, no problems, just interesting.

(I’ll approve  )

While it does look odd, tell me how otherwise those graphs need to be shown for a timescale which is not based on a generic universal time ?
There is no other way in that case. It has to go back and start over again.

Your approval is exactly what I seek  !

I could change all 1,000,000,000 aspects of my life to 24 hour UTC. I actually like the idea. One of the best consequences is the already challenging communications with others would come to a screetching halt.

Sticking to local sun time (±30 minutes; i.e. local time zone) would already do miracles. The transitions between DST and “normal” time are fruitless and causing all sorts of nuisances.

These graphs look very strange, it would have been better to draw them using UTC internally, and then only show local time in X axis labels. For example SmokePing graphs look normal and show “2:00” twice (one hour apart) on the X axis.

I’m not understanding.

BTW, I’m using Home Assistant.
