Omni Directional Signal Problem

Hey yall, i’ve got a problem on one of my repeater sites that i’ve not been able to correct for the last week now, i’m out of ideas, i’d appreciate ANY help.

Setup: Repeater site on top of NTK Silo’s (± 45m high), Mikrotik 532 Routerboard, UFL Pigtail → LMR195 cable → 15DBi Omni directional.

Situation 1: I’ve got clear line of site ± 1.5km (straight line) from the silo, i’m using a 22DBi Grid with a 11mbps Senao Accesspoint that needs to connect to the 15DBi Omni, but i cant get ANY signal at my home.

Situation 2: No line of site ± 2km’s (straight line) from the silo, using a 22DBi Grid with a 11mpbs Accesspoint from a client’s home, only gets about 20% communications quality (used to get 70% previously)

Solutions tried:

  1. Replaced the Routerboard
  2. Replaced the NMP Card
  3. Replaced the pigtail
  4. Replaced the lmr cable
  5. Replaced the omni
  6. moved the installation ± 60m away from any other antenna.
  7. moved the omni lower
    :sunglasses: Raised the omni higher

Results: ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!! still no signal!! :imp: What else can be the problem?

I can suggest three things.

Use another Mikrotik and test from the same location as your current client that is not working. Rule out there is a problem with your client.

If the other mikrotik doesn’t recieve a signal from your omni then.. Check the pigtails to make sure they are rated for the correct freqency as well as your omni. Make sure your radio has the correct connectre seelcted (main or aux).

If that looks good.. do a /system reset and reprogram your unit. I had the same situation as you descriped and it seemed some of the internal code was corrupt. I did a reset and reprogramed and it corrected the issue. In my case I could connect and use the omni just fine from about 200 ft away, but once i got .5 miles away it wouldn’t.

I have only had to do this one time for a single relay. Never had the issue with any of my other units, nor have I had to reset the unit again.

I had a client who one day suddenly could not authenticate to the access point. The ONLY thing that resolved this issue was to swap the NMP for a R52.

Even though the R52 is a lower power card, I found siganl strength for all my clients went up and the problem client all of a sudden was able to authenticate.
