OmniTIK 5 ac indoor mode

Hi all,

maybe you have an explanation for this:
I can’t switch my OmniTIK 5ac (ROS 6.49.2) to “indoor” Installation.

In words:

failure: allowed installation type is outdoor

This is just strange to me. I would like to use a lower frequency range like 5180 MHz to support further devices that can’t connect to the current high channel frequency.
The OmniTIK 5 ac should be able and allowed according to:

I am puzzled as I can’t find a parameter that prevents the switch to indoor installation.

Any idea??

This device is designed and certified for outdoor usage. Indoor freq are prohibited outdoor. The device is locked on outdoor usage, there is no parameter we can set to change this. Changing this would invalidate the ETSI or CE certification. (Just reminder: Outdoor freq are not prohibited by law for use indoor)
If you are using it indoor, you will have to cheat on the country, to be able to use indoor freq. (5180-5320).
Cheating is illegal !? Maybe. But this is not in conflict with legal RF usage, when you are using it indoor and limit the TXpower to the indoor legal values for Germany. ((23 and 20 dBm) - 6dBi antenna gain.)

All this time I was under the impression that Normis and the Latvian folks thought Germans lived outside :wink:

Ah yes, I didn’t think about the certification, although being aware of the legal limitation.
That makes perfect sense, kind of legal enforcement. I will have a look at your suggested work around.

bpwl, yes not sure if you mean federal legislation or WIFI legislation but I still have no clue what DFS is used for at least in these parts… I always turn it off. :slight_smile:
or did you simply mean we can be a weird bunch? (which I dont necessarily disagree with).

@anav: regulatory domain Canada for the Omnitik outdoor-only device allows the ETSI indoor freq as outdoor freq at a lower (23dBm) TXpower (that cannot be used at all if an ETSI/Europe country is choosen in Omnitik). That lower TX-power is the same as the ETSI TXpower indoor.

You can ‘skip’ the DFS freq, not disable DFS functionality. Again ETSI countries have nothing in the allowed outdoor freq list if DFS is skipped. All freq are DFS only.
FCC (US and Canada) still have the very often used 5735 till 5835 range. Powerfull and no DFS restrictions. Prohibited in Europe. We have to use DFS!

Not using DFS is limiting your freq list. OK at home, not e.g. where we deploy 30 overlapping 5GHz AP, linked with 6 SXTSA5 P to MP 18 SXTsq in 5 GHz. (SXTSA5 are linked with CUBE with 5 GHz backup). It’s puzzling with channels, as some connections generate false radar detects for some channels.

Yuck! I dont envy you. Life in Europe seems complicated… Must be nice to be young I have some nephews that seem to work occassionally but like spending free time skiing in Austria or surfing in Portugal.

Yes could I have 2,500 bolts that are 5 inches in length and 1/2 inch thick, we are repairing a major section. Sorry Sir there are 45,000 bolts of that description which of those at the 2500 you are looking for. Just give me 2500 of one of the numbers. Sorry we cannot do that, there is no justification to supply 2500 of the same bolt. It would not pass an audit. You need to request the correct bolt for each hole. What?? The bolts are not even stamped with a number. You will have to look it up on the schematic diagrams. You do have them dont you. Ummh maybe on microfiche :wink:

Too funny hovoetn!
As a matter of fact when I was in Grade 9, I think, my mother and stepfather went traipsing to Europe for two-three months, to get finally married and left us in the hands of a couple, an American fellow from Ohio and a German Lady. So yes I have had first hand intimate contact. What stands out in my mind is the stand-offs we use to have. Me vs the German Lady.
Typical example, the dinner table, supper served at 6pm (sharp), and I am still sitting at the table at 8pm refusing to eat (the crap put before me).
Imagine waffles where one can still see the bicarbonate (white powder form) imbedded in the waffle. Sorry I dont eat ‘base’ dry chemicals normally for my meals. :slight_smile:

Going further back I can recall sitting in a bar at 10 years old with my brother of 9, in a bar in Costa Brava with drunken German tourists, and I have to admit they seemed be in and enjoying good “spirits” and jovial. Just not sure that was their usual demeanor. Anyway all in good fun. Hovoetn, sounds Dutch… ?

As long as you play ball and not man, no problem for me.

There are (largely) three parts in Belgium.
Mostly Flemish speaking in the north , where I live.
Mostly French speaking in the south.
French/German speaking in the east.
More in the center is Brussels with surrounding region where it is really a giant soup of nationalities (currently over 160).

Largely a result from how our little country was created in early 1800 to form a buffer between the then big powers in Europe.
As a matter of fact: in history, almost without exception every country in Europe has at a certain point in time invaded what currently is Belgium.
Romans, Spaniards, Dutch, Germans, French, Austrians, Prussian, … you name it. They were here.

So we have some historical experience with foreign nationalities :laughing:

Germans are known to be sometimes strict, rigid and mostly punctual, yes, at least the ones I know where it was mostly in a positive way. But they are certainly not all like that.
I can vividly picture you sitting at the table refusing the meal :smiley:

Well I have only known one Belgium person ( a french teacher ) and bordering on luney tunes. :wink:.
I have many other more serious and sobering thoughts on what is transpiring there but too deep for this forum.
