OmniTIK mesh in forest area

Hi,

I am interesting whether the OmniTIK will work in forested area, but not through forest. It is camp area with paths and OmniTIK would be installed on light lamps. Trees are on each side of the path, but visibility is good forward and backwards on the path. Distance would be small 50-100m (160-350 feet) between points, so I am guessing it should work. I don’t know how much interference would be from reflection of the trees?
Plan is to power Groove, with 2,4GHz Omni for the clients from OmniTIK and have Omnitiks as a backbone on 5GHz.

Hi,

I had a very similar installation in an auto-camp that is quite forested with paths going through. All backbones where done with 5 GHz links, and it went through 50 meters of oak trees! I didn’t believe it would work! But i recommend to test it first. We tested with AirMax5 CPE first! But beware that 2.4 AP points will day off rather quickly (range wise).

Tnx for the reply. Your answer gives me hope

Shouldn’t lower frequencies pass through obstacles better then higher frequencies?

We have a combination of omnis and sectors, I guess it will be OK for the clients. It doesn’t have to be ideal. It is important that backbone works fine.

Well i thought that too, i also noticed that Pine trees literally kill 2.4 GHz! For 2.4 we used sector antennas.
