One gateway and 1 node

HI folks, I am testing 3 different softwares at the moment and like a great deal MT.

First off. I KNOW NOTHING! lol

COMPLETE NOOB

k now.

After ready for a few hours, I finally was able o bridge ether and wlan card and I am able to access the gateway pc via wireless connection from laptop. Apart from still no being able to get the damn hotspot/authentcation thing going, this is no my issue right now..

Im trying to get the other box (node) to connect to the gateway. I have followed these steps (http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Mesh_wds) on both machines and as mentioned, the gateway I can connect to wirelessly and surf the net, but on the node in the truck when i try and connect to it with laptop, first it gets assigned that bogus IP address when network cant get a real ip from dhcp. I am using the winbox and am starting to get familiar with it, so please if u suggest me something keep in mind im using that thing. I love the learning cureve thing and I WILL get this going, just need some pointers.

So, how to get and confirm that the node is talking to gateway router/pc? Assume that I followed the small step by step here http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Mesh_wds .

I tried playing with the dhcp server section on the node with no luck. Same on the gateway, when I have ether and wlan bridged on gateway, laptop gets dhcp from the router of the internet connectiom, when not bridged it gets ip from the ip’s specified in the dhcp server settings.. Another quick question. What would I enter as a DNS when configuring dhcp server on gateway and or node? I make one up? or enter my ISP’s dns info??? I appreciate the eventual comments. Thx

p.s. My goal is to have a mesh network with 30-40 nodes. Settings right now are ap_bridge with dynamic wds enabled.

Thx guys…
Chris
