Only auto-sensing works?

Hi all,

We have just bought 8 250GS devices to be deployed on several locations. I am testing them now at the office and there is one thing that I can’t get to work: hard locked speed.

When I hook up the devices to our main switch, a Cisco Catalyst 2960, they work fine when auto-sensing is enabled. When I lock the speed 100/Full on the Cisco it still works. Now, when I configure the 250GS to use 100/Full the link fails. Putting it back to auto-sensing makes it work again.

To exclude the Cisco being the problem I’ve configured the NIC in my PC with the same settings and here I observe a similar behaviour. Both on auto-sensing works fine, PC on 100/Full and 250GS on auto-sensing is also OK, but both on 100/Full fails.

When connecting my PC with the 100/Full setting to the Cisco using the 100/Full setting it works fine.

For me my conclusion is that there is something wrong with the 250GS and the 100/Full hard locked setting. Does anybody else experienced this or could somebody reproduce this problem?

I don’t know about this particular Cisco or RB250GS.. but most Cisco’s disable Auto-MDI when configuring fixed speed/duplex. So you might need to use a cross cable.

Hi! Thanks for replying, I appreciate all help I can get on this one.

We’ve used the cross cable as well but that didn’t solve the issue. And since the issue also exists when the 250GS is connected to a PC I don’t think it’s a cabling issue.

I was wondering if there was any conclusion to this. I am currently having the same issue. For futher information

the RB250GS is running v.1.6. When I set it statically it for 100/full it will sometime’s drop the link, sometimes not. If it does drop the link switching it to auto neg will bring it back up. So far, no matter what, when it’s static for 100/full and the link is running… when the RB250GS reboots the link does not come back up until it’s set for auto neg.

Should also mention that this is using a passive Poe for power (so it does send power up over lines 4/5, 7/8 and data over 1/2,3/6)

Any help would be appreciated.

The article has been of great help for another problem that I had, thank you very much!!

This solution doesn’t works for this problem, but making tests, I see that “Forwarding” tab works fine for this.
Thanks!
