Only run Dude server on Routerboard - no routing, firewall,

I would like to know if it is possible (& wise) to take a Routerboard and only use it as a Dude server? I don’t want to use any other features of the router (I am already using other MikroTik routerboards as my router/firewall, etc). This would be preferable to using a PC (space requirements, heat, power consumption, Windows license, etc.

Has anyone tried this setup? If so, which Rb would you recommend?
Thanks.

Yes, it’s possible to use only Dude server, but some basic configuration required for the IP communication.
IP address, gateway, etc, perhaps firewall.

Install two packages,

system
dude

Make sure you can access router in network, connect with Dude client and setup required configuration for Dude server.

Thanks for the reply. I had a feeling that this could be done with a bare minimum of installed packages, but I was unsure of which ones to install.

Something like the RB230 or the RB450 should work out fine, correct?

It depends on the device number, as sometimes space on hard drive can be limitation factor for running Dude on MikroTik RouterOS.

Space is a REALLY BIG thing. Even some of my small networks after running for a month or so, have pushed past 50meg of data! You will be surprised how much data can be collected quickly.

We only run Dude either on x86 systems with a large OS drive, 1+gig, or on Server boxes. Then use 433s for agents!
