How can i open a .backup file without mikrotik?
access from ftp. commands are owenrs mikrotik.
If you want to backup in human understandable format use /export file=mybackup and then grab the .rsc file, open with WordPad, remove garbage and default settings, and you can import it back later. Usually when I use this I have to move some stuff around, like the address-lists before the firewall and mangle rules that use them.

But how do i remove the garbage? There is a lot of it.
As I said - open with WordPad (do not open with MS Notepad!) and you can freely edit the settings.
