I have 2 identical x86 Dell Power Edge SC1425 servers with Dual Xeon 3.4ghz processors, 30gig Solid State SATA drive, 2 built in Gigabyte NICs, and 1 RB44GV (4 port gigabyte card). Both running fresh install of RouterOS 3.17.
With NO traffic (other then my winbox session), I open System/Resources. It shows the CPU setting at 0-1% as you would expect. I Open Inerfaces and the CPU jumps to 10-15% and bounces around that range. Close Interfaces and back to 0-1%. This same thing happens on both of my server! Keep in mind, there is NO traffic on this FRESH install of ROS 3.17. Opening any other window, doesn’t seem to have effect on CPU, just Interfaces.
What’s going on? My 2.9.50 PC does not do this, but BOTH of my new Power Edge dual processor servers with 3.17 installed do it.
Yes, under System and Resources. It’s given in percent. I never pay attention to the green bar, it doesn’t seem to change much. Since my original post, I’ve turned Multi-CPU off to fix RouterOS crash problem and the CPU usage shows about 20% more just for having the Interface window open in Winbox.
I understand Winbox causing the router extra work when certain windows are open (like Interface), but a 20% cpu increase on a 3.4ghz Xeon seems a little high.
And a side note, opening other windows in Winbox, such as queues, firewalls, mangle, etc, which seem to gather a lot of info (40 mangle rules, and 16 queue trees), doesn’t seem to cause much CPU increase. Maybe a few percent at most. However when you open Interface in Winbox, the CPU usage goes up almost 20%. It does bounce around a lot, but it’s roughly 20% more when open. It’s doing this on both my X86 machines with version 3.17.
