OpenVPN disconnecting every 2-3 minutes with poll error

I have two mikrotik devices, a CRS305 in one location with an OpenVPN server running in ethernet mode, and a hEX in a different location being an OpenVPN client. Both devices are upgraded to 7.15.2/3

What happens is that I set up the hEX client, it connects, and I can access resources. I close the UI, and 2-3 minutes later the CRS305 logs say “disconnected ”. I can’t access the resources anymore, and the CRS305 server shows it as disconnected, while the hEX client shows it as connected. I have to manually disable and re-enable the hEX client for it to work again for the next 2-3 minutes.

Interestingly, I also have a linux desktop with NetworkManager, and it correctly re-connects so I don’t notice any outages from it.

I presume I have some timeouts set wrong, but my attempts have resulted in no change. What timeouts can I adjust to fix this issue?

I no longer have the hEX, so I can’t check. However, I think I was able to get at least 30 minutes of connectivity with TCP instead of UDP, but I moved to IPSEC fairly quickly and IPSEC worked well until I decommissioned the site approximately a year after my original post
