I have had an RB751G for about a year and have fiddled with various wireless parameters to get the best throughput with varying degrees of success. It doesn’t help that that 2.4GHz spectrum in my neighbourhood is getting quite busy and dynamic.
I can’t seem to get a good handle on what are the most optimal WiFi settings for a Mikrotik device when used for the typical indoor application. For instance, Wifi routers from other vendors don’t let you have such fine control over parameters that the Mikrotik allows for but they seem to have decent performance. Having read the (rather unspecific) wireless FAQ and the online manuals I am not necessarily any wiser on what the best options are.
So what should the actual parameters be on the Wireless, Data rates, Advanced and HT tabs to accommodate the best performance on a range of devices like smartphones and laptops? Do I bother with options like HW Protection Mode and use long/short/both preambles?
