OSPF default route keeps changing to backup

I don’t really know what info is needed to answer this question, so anyone willing to help, I’d appreciate it and will be forthcoming with answers to my config. This is only my second time using OSPF, the first went off without a hitch.

AP1 has a 5GHz p2p shot to my network. AP2 has a 5GHz client, 2.4GHz and 900MHz AP. My 5GHz client on AP2 is my gateway to AP1, AP1 is directly connected to a Cisco router. I am running OSPF, all routed, no bridging aside from the 2.4GHz and 900MHz ap being bridged in one subnet.

AP2 default route on the 5GHz client is state is backup on OSPF. Whenever I change the IP on that interface or add a static route, the state changes to designated route and everything works, I can ping google from AP2, net runs like a well oiled machine. After a few minutes, state changes to backup, and everything gets spotty. I can no longer ping by domain name, only by IP on AP2, and internet performance is lacking. There is a hesitation before the page loads, up to 30 seconds. Sometimes the page will not load at all.

IP’s are public x.x.x.222/30 on ether1 AP1
10.1.11.1/24 on 5GHz p2p on AP1
10.1.11.2/24 on 5GHz p2p on AP2 (gateway for this AP, keeps going to backup)
10.0.22.1/24 on APBridge on AP2
192.168.0.1/24 on a temp WDS bridge on a virtual AP on AP2
