OSPF interoperating with Cisco IOS?

Anybody have success using MikroTik’s RouterOS in cooperation with Cisco IOS in setting up a multi-area OSPF configuration? I’m just curious if it is possible before I spend a lot of effort…

Using a mix of 2.7.x and 2.8.x RouterOS but will be upgrading all to whatever version would work best. Also, same with IOS, currently running v.12.2(15)T2 as a base but some IP Plus routers running 12.2(24). Can update the Cisco’s to current code as needed… Before anyone yells, I’ve got five sites where I have to use IP Precedence for prioritization so I can’t replace some of the Ciscos, yet…

So, thoughts, comments, gotchas???

Thanks in advance,

Owen

It took a long time, and a lot of effort (lots of reading at Cisco’s website), but I got it working. My problem was primarily due to my lack of understanding of how to implement OSPF on Cisco’s IOS.

Wait a second!

That’s not what you said last week in OKC!?! Seem to remember something about enabling RIP and leaving it alone!!!

No, what I said is that it was running “crippled”. What I had to do to get it working that way was to filter some routes (using Access lists). The basic config was working if I filtered all “connected” routes coming into the Cisco from MT. To me, that is “crippled”. It does work to do it that way.

Keep in mind, too, that I was using an older IOS version (11.something). This problem where the Cisco just kept getting it’s routing table hosed may have been fixed in the later releases.

Sorry 'bout that. Misunderstood… I’ve enabled it at the NOC and Cisco 12.2.24 is seeing the MT 2.8.11 boxes. I don’t know that routing is happening because I’m still using a combo of EIGRP (for Cisco’s) and static (for MT’s). Going to read/experiment/read some more and hopefully not break anything. Quiet traffic levels so I won’t make a lot of folks mad if I do break some routes…

Thanks Butch…
