OSPF2 network-type

Hi,

sorry for noobish question - my very first on this forum: I’m curious if there is a plan to introduce OSPF network type which would not use multicast nor elect DR and BDR. My intention is to use this network type for ptp links over a network (including wireless peers) which do not support multicast.

If not, are there any recommendation which network-type use in such cases?

Regard, Martin

In RouterOS v6 only network type that works without multicast is NBMA.

Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately I know that. I’m looking for something like NBMA but without using DR/BDR at all - like ptmp and point-to-point do.

I’m curious, what is the intent behind not wanting DR/BDR?

You might consider eBGP for RF links. It converges pretty fast and doesn’t require multicast

I just feel they are unnecessary for ptp link.. and the DR/BDR election may increase the time needed to recover after a failure. Thank for your advice anyway, I’ll definitely give eBGP a look!

That’s why we normally use the ptp OSPF type on RF links and it works very well with rapid convergence.

What radios are you using that don’t support multicast?
