Packetloss on ethernet ports - Vlan

Hi

I have an RB1200, running a vlan (id20) on ethernet 6 (192.168.16.1)

Ethernet 6 is connected to a basic switch which feeds 3 x RB411 (192.168.16.3,11,12)

Each RB411 has the vlan set up also , and pinging between the units works - but not very well.

Im getting these results:

4 bytes from 192.168.16.3: icmp_seq=893 ttl=61 time=125.515 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.16.3: icmp_seq=894 ttl=61 time=139.392 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.16.3: icmp_seq=895 ttl=61 time=115.440 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.16.3: icmp_seq=896 ttl=61 time=104.395 ms
Request timeout for icmp_seq 897
Request timeout for icmp_seq 898
Request timeout for icmp_seq 899

No sense to it, just starts, stops, Im pinging across a PPTP tunnel in this example, but pinging from an RB411 to the RB1200 yields the same issues.

Ive removed the switch in between - same issues. Gut feeling is that its something to do with ARP.

RB411s are running versions 5.6 , 5.7 and 5.8 (trying to track the issue to a fw version). The RB1200 is on 5.7 at present but have just downloaded 5.11 but am unable to upgrade until the user have signed off.

Can anyone shed any light?

UPDATE: Upgraded RB1200 to 5.11

no joy, still random packet loss.

Seems to be consistant in that every RB411 has packet loss when pinging either another RB411 or the Rb1200

Another update:

If I leave the system alone for a while, it always takes 7 response timed outs, then on the 8th it starts pinging. No pattern evident though on the starts and stops once its started to respond.

tell this to support and send .rif file to support.
