Does MikroTik make a 12, 24 or 48 Port SFP switch or router that can be used to connect twenty-three (23) 260GS switches back to a POP via single-mode fiber? i.e. it needs to have 12, 24 or 48 SFP cages.
If not, can anyone suggest a switch that is compatible with MikroTik’s S-35LC20D SFP modules?
We are running much of this hardware in outdoor cabinets, so the denser the form factor the better. Ideally we’d like 24 SFP slots per U of rack space. This would allow us to pack around 200 households in a 1/2 rack (after 21 Us are taken out for fiber and power).
My ideal solution would be a 1U fanless managed switch with 24 SFP cages that costs around $25/port ($600).
We’ve had a few of these 260GS switches in the field for around 6 mo for testing and are happy with the results. Right now we are using 2 fibers per site, but the S-35LC20D will take our fiber requirement down to 1 fiber per address.
The ability to put two lasers on a single fiber is a key to keeping the costs down and leaving enough fiber for future expansion services.
