Password Questions

I have setup my mikrotik router and the first thing did was change the admin password and then created my own username and password and for the past week or so I have been able to log in with my username and password via winbox with pubip:9191 with no issues at all. Yesterday, when I need to log in it received ERROR: wrong username or password for both admin and my own login. I am not sure what has happened or going on, but I am the only one on my IT team that has access to this at the moment since its a new setup, but if anyone can shed some light or some thoughts on this that would be great.

Thank you,

Either you enterred incorrect username/password, or someone has changed username/password which means someone else managed to access Mikrotik device.

Instead of creating a new account, put a stronger password for “admin” user and must use firewall to allow certain access to Mikrotik. Disable all other services and leave only (e.g.) Winbox port open. Disable MAC login and MAC telnet as well as MAC ping services too. https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Securing_Your_Router

Time to reset your router and I would also suggest doing net reinstall.

Thanks for the reply, the things that makes me concerned is I have disabled all the services except winbox and I am using a different port then the default, Also I have change the admin password to a generated one from 1Pass so it is not an easy password as well as the user for myself created. Is there anything else or any way I can get in without having to factory reset router and loose my config?
It is a lot of work to have to create everything again, but if I have to I will.

Thanks again please let me know if there is anything else I can do.

I would suggest to create a new user with uncommon name and strong password and ten fully remove default admin user.
