pci ADSL modem

does Mikrotik support a PCI ADSL modem with bgp protocol?

thanks

No, we may add USB DSL modems in the future. You should use the standard DSL to Ethernet modem now.

John,

I asked this same question of Mikrotik a few weeks ago. May I ask why you are considering adding USB but no PCI support for ADSL modems? I cannot see an advantage in using an external USB modem as apposed to an Ethernet device.

I would like to use a PCI ADSL modem because:

  1. They are very inexpensive
  2. It provides a “one box” solution, particularly relevent when using a router board.

Guy

Thanks John, understood.

Can Mikrotik recomend or suggest an external Ethernet ADSL modem? I am thinking D-Link DSL-300T because this unit runs Linux based software so I thought this might lead to less issues.

Guy

You should ask your DSL provider – they will know best.

I’ve been using dratek vigor 2600 routers which do the job well. Although the idea of being able to use cheap Alcatel USB frogs really appleals especally if RouterOS then supported MPPP and ADSL bonding!

Harvey,

I am also currently using Draytek Vigor 2600s. I am hoping to replace these with MT boxes to provide traffic shaping, hence my desire to have the MT box provide the ADSL modem functionality as well. Using a Draytek and an MT is rather expensive, obviously.

Guy

may I use an ethernet adsl modem (Dlink DSL-300g+) and MT to support bgp on an ADSL (2048/512)?

The provider told me that using CISCO routers I can do this on that connection.

thanks
