PCQ and HTP (Bandwidth control)

Hi,

I need assistance in setting up a little wireless network to share my internet connection. My network scenerio is like this
network.jpg
My connection satelite bandwidth = 256 kbps up/ 1024kbps down with CIR 1/2
Want to divide it into 3 groups

Group 1 bandwidth >>>>> 64 kbps up/ 288kbps down
Group 2 Bandwidth >>>>> 40kbps up/128kbps down
Group 3 bandwidth >>>>>> 24 kbps up/ 96kbps down

Bandwidth is shared equally between users in each group.
There are 2 different IP subnet.

And ability to burst up to 1024kbps when available.

I will appreciate input please.

Upgrade to 3.5Mbits VSAT at least and add a second VSAT in a load-balanced scenario.

Include a x86 for Proxy (tweaked for cache) as well.

I would use the “QoS best practice by Janis Megis” optimized for equal sharing.
Because these speeds are so low SO LOW that there is no point in shaping them and reselling them as even slower speeds.

Regards.

P.S. by the way I have seen very ugly things being done to the TCP streams by the “IP Modem” device of the diagram. Each stream shaped to 15kilobits per second.

Wow what a service

Is that the solution when you are faced with this task?

How much do you pay for the VSAT ? There should be a cheaper service available already. You should be able to subscribe to a second account. To have two with at least 3.5Mbps speed each.

I do not think how much i pay for Vsat services is necessary to determine a likely solution. In any case, I can tell you that 1Mbps is more than $5000 monthly here. We hope the price will crash with the commercialization of Glo international optical fibre.

Move to a different country.
