PCQ for equal bandwidth sharing

hi

i’m new to the forum .

we are looking to setup a Mikrotik device using RouterOS to allow dynamic bandwidth sharing.

After going through the forums, I can see that this topic has been discussed quite a few times. I have followed the posts, and setup the device accordingly but I’m not getting the results im looking for

we have followed the instructions as per this document

http://www.mikrotik.com/testdocs/ros/2.9/root/queue_content.php#6.54.6.3

The changes we have made to the configuration mentioned above is that the max-limit and the limit have been set to the same number

For download queue, the limit is 8196k , and the upload queue the limit is 1024k

Apart from this, the standard NATing rules with masquerade option is applied., to make the device a router

The results of testing with this configuration are as follows:

The mikrotik device is an Lenovo PC with Router OS 5.2 installed and Level 4 license added to it.

It has two network cards, one internal Intel 1gbps 1Network card ,and one D-link 100mbps PCI Network card.

the test network has two PCs for testing on the LAN side and the WAN side is connected to an ADSL Router with an 8Mbps ADSL line connected to it. There are more PCs on the LAN side, but they are not downloading anything.

A torrent download is started on PC1 and the speed goes upto the connection limit of 8Mbps but when PC2 starts a standard HTTP download, instead of the expected sharing of maximum bandwidth between the two PCs, it is only able to extract a maximum of 1Mbps from the bandwidth, and PC1 only goes down to about 7Mbps, and this behaviour is erratic, because if we use other download managers, the division is different like around 5MBps and 2MBps , even if still unequal.

This is the scenario that we would like to use the Mikrotik devices in, to allow for dynamic equal bandwidth sharing.

If the problem is that I’m using a PC instead of a RouterBOARD device, then I can probably look into purchasing another device.

Any thoughts on this would be really appreciated
