I have a network deployed remotely (that I unfortunately can not visit in person) which is having problems with large IP packets.
I have a nearly identical configuration in my lab here, which does not exhibit the same behavior. The lab network works exactly as it should.
Both network consist of several RB493AH and a pair of Juniper 2320 routers. All RB are running 3.23 with routing beta and mpls beta. The Junipers are all running JUNOS 9.4.
In the remote network, when large packets are sent (i.e. a ping of size 1469 or more), the MTU size packets do not reach the far side, but the last fragment does.
In the lab network, all packets get through 64 to 4,000bytes, no loss. Examining the traffic between the RBs in the lab, I see that all packets are smaller than 1510 bytes.
I have tested this with VPLS and with eoip, with the same results.
Have you seen anything like this before?
Any ideas?
Many thanks,
Charles
