We have a Fibre Leased Line with 1GB download and upload speed.
If I plug my laptop directly into the line using a static IP and run a speed test from speedtest.net I literally get 1000Mbps upload and download.
With the RB2011UIAS-RM plugged directly into the Leased Line, and my laptop plugged directly into the Mikrotik using Cat5 and connected using PPPoE, I only get 150Mbps upload and download. I have been through ALL the settings serveral times and there are no speed limits set. When I carry out the test the Mikrotik shows that I am using 200Mbps, even though its only showing 150 on speedtest.net.
I should be getting much closer to 1000Mbps, we thought the Mikrotik was faulty, so we bought a new RB2011UIAS-RM. The exact same issues was happeneing on there. We then thought that the harware wasn’t good enough to throuput any more, so we upgraded to a RB3011UIAS-RM. I have carried out the same test this morning, and I am still getting 150Mbps max.
I suspect it’s more likely to be due to MTU than a software version. Check your PPPoE Client MTU, MRU settings match those of the provider, remove the MRRU setting and check that the MSS mangle rules are correctly set.
That said, you should always upgrade the RouterBoot Firmware to the latest suggested from within the RouterOS software. We recommend the latest most stable working RouterOS is v6.34.6.
I have just emailed our ISP asking what the MTU should be.
On the Mikrotik ( Interfaces → Ethernet ), we have two ethernet cables plugged in. Onces direct to the ISP, and the other is to my laptop. MTU is set to 1500 on both Ethernet connections.
In PPP on the Mikrotik, MTU on the PPPoE account it 1492, and my laptop is set to 1492.
We have our own network and serve around 50 customers, all customers have their own routers.
So the PPPoE on our Mikrotik is from us to our customers routers.
We noticed our customers are not able to reach over 150Mbps, so I have setup a test one with one account on it direct into our 1GB line, and my laptop into that, still only just hitting 150Mbps
If I plug laptop into 1GB line directly without Mikrotik I get 1000Mbps upload and download, so the Mikrotik is limiting the bandwidth somehow
In Winbox, click on “New Terminal”. At the command prompt, type in “/export file=” and then type in some suitable filename to save the config to. Then in Winbox, click on Files, drag the saved file you just created to your desktop and edit out any passwords, leave everything else alone, knowing IP address and MAC addresses is not a security risk (unless you have no firewall!) - then paste the edited contents into a code block (when you are editing a message, you will see there is a “Code” button)
Once we have your config, it might be more obvious where the problem is.
(As you are now stating you are using this RB3011 for serving 50 customers with a PPPoE server, it might also be that you are not using FastTrack and that is causing the lower than expected throughput.)
Just a note…
I have the same problem (except bw provided by ISP is 500Mbit/s and my “ceiling” is around 230Mbit/s).
However connection to ISP doesnt involve PPP (ethernet → cable modem → ISP) so at least in my case it shouldnt be related to MTU.
Tried to upgrade to 6.38.3 (from 6.38.1) but no joy.
Direct connection to cable modem really gives 500Mbit/s..
