Persistent Freezing Issue with MikroTik CRS354-48P-4S+2Q+

I hope this message finds you well. I’m currently facing a recurring issue with my MikroTik CRS354-48P-4S+2Q+. Approximately every 4 days, at different times, the device experiences a freeze. While power is present, and the ports are active, both the devices connected to it and the MikroTik itself lose connectivity. In Winbox, the device is not visible, and pinging it yields no response. Interestingly, the port on the connected device remains active. The switch connects multiple computers, phones, printers, with a relatively low traffic load.

I have checked the extended logs, but there are no apparent error messages. The only resolution is a power cycle, but this is only a temporary fix that lasts for about 4 days.

One observation is that during the freeze, I am able to connect through the management port. I’ve noticed that on the affected switch, the port labeled sfp-sfpplus1 goes into pause mode. In the TX Stats tab, the value of TX Pause becomes 1. Additionally, on the upstream switch (CRS326-24S+2Q) to which the problematic switch is connected, the RX Stats tab also shows a pause, with the value of RX Pause being 1.

To address this issue, suggestions include disabling Flow Control. However, it’s worth noting that this parameter is already disabled on both switches for the uplink ports.

Has anyone encountered a similar problem or can provide insights into resolving this issue? Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Problem has been there for years at this point.

Return the unit and get 2 CRS328-24P+4S-RM with a 10 dollar DAC cable between them.

Or get a EdgeSwitch ES48-500. Been around for years and have been solid.

I would gladly connect using a DAC cable, but the devices are on different floors, and we use optical patch panels. We have DAC cables, and we use them for connecting devices that are close together, such as in the server room.

Hypnosis,

I am telling you the 48 port unit is fatally flawed.

Return it and get 2 CRS328-24P+4S-RM and stick them in the same place as a replacement.

OK, but It’s amazing that we didn’t have such an issue for half a year until we acquired another MikroTik CRS354-48P-4S+2Q+. It’s worth mentioning that we already had 5 CRS354-48P-4S+2Q+ units in our network with r2 and r3, and there were no issues with them. Then we connected the new MikroTik to the CRS326-24S+2Q+, just like all the others. And the problem started with one of those CRS354-48P-4S+2Q+ units that was installed earlier. Interestingly, the new CRS354-48P-4S+2Q+ is functioning without any issues.

Switching to SwitchOS mode helped me. It has been working for 14 days, but I would still like to have RouterOS

Switch is down after 15 days xD

“Another one bites the dust!”

I have lots of those switches, and also experienced this issue.

Latest beta (7.14) finally have the fix for this issue. Currently testing on few sites and looks promising. Not a single issue since.

The firmware 7.13.1 (stable) really helped me. It’s been a smooth ride for 21 days now

Fixed in 7.14

3+ years and now its fixed?

Do you have a test case where its running for some extended period of time?

I mean… 3 years is a long time of “ITS FIXED…” “ITS NOT FIXED.”

At my work I have 2xCRS354-48P-4S+2Q+ installed running on SwOS, one with firmware 2.13 and the other with 2.16. For half a year there were no problems, and then a month ago problems similar to what was written here began, sometimes a block of ports and sometimes all ports freeze at the same time. Only a reboot helps, and not always right away, sometimes after a reboot the traffic is up for a few seconds and then down again. Sometimes the switch does not freeze for weeks, sometimes it freezes several times a day. When the problem started, I installed a new switch of the same type, same problem(

The problem is specifically on the switch with SwOS 2.16 firmware where 17x Poe access points and 1x Poe camera are connected, and in the switch with firmware 2.13 there are no problems yet, but maybe this is due to the fact that this one is less loaded - 13x Poe access points and 1x Poe camera.

this information may be useful, with the CRS354-48G-4S+2Q+ 0 problems never froze.

I encountered the same issue yesterday. I’ve had four of these units in my network for the past 8-12 months. They’ve worked fine, though slightly slower than expected for an unknown reason. This is the first time I’m seeing this situation. All units are running RouterOS 7.16 with firmware version 7.8. There’s a newer firmware version, 7.16, available. Should I upgrade?

have you figured out a solution yet to this problem ? I’m facing exactly the same problem and no solution yetl.

I also encountered this problem.
Our switch also freezes.
But I noticed one peculiarity: if you cool the room it's installed in very strongly, this problem doesn't occur. While we were setting the air conditioner to 20-22 degrees, the switch worked, but as soon as the air conditioner was removed, it started freezing every four days.
