PHPbb Prosilver has problem

It seems that most of the graphics is gone on this board when I do use Prosilver. Looks ok in Canvas.
But for me Canvas is just bad to use, so Prosilver needs to be fixed.

No problem with me, on my side with Prosilver.
Try to clean cache and try incognito tab/window.

Which graphics exactly do you mean?
Some of the profile pictures are broken for me on canvas

Har nothing to do with browser or stuff at my side. Tried 3 different PC (2 at home and 1 at work). All looks like this when I have Prosilver set inn Board Preferences.

Yes, others will probably encounter the issue too if they cleared their browser cache. There is a problem with the forum server since a couple of days. Large transfers are stopped in the middle (usually with connection reset or partial content error). As a result, if the resources are not yet cached, then you’ll see placeholders and missing stylesheets/scripts everywhere, until you’ve navigated around or reloaded the page a couple of times (the missing resources are gradually loaded successfully).

But because of this problem with transfer being abruptly stopped, the forum is currently unusable for me on Chromium based browsers. Because large threads are cut in the middle. I’ve tested with mobile and desktop browser on 3 different ISPs, both with IPv4 and IPv6 and the problem is present everywhere. If the thread is small enough then the content can be loaded til the end, but with missing avatars.

Currently only Firefox works for me with the forum, because it looks like Firefox does try to resume the loading of the thread pages when the connection is reset. But in the status bar you can clearly see that FF had to reestablish the connection multiple times, including new TLS negotiations. And of course, the referenced resources fail to load most of the time if not yet cached, and requires multiple retries.

Below are screenshots showing Edge and Firefox trying to load the “Active Topics” page and this thread http://forum.mikrotik.com/t/new-exciting-features-for-storage/181774/1 On edge only 7.8KB could be transferred for the HTML content.

Hmm, after pressing refresh 10 times, pages starts to look normal in prosilver. Can also see that there are missing icon etc on canvas as well. (Chrome based browser)

I do also some time get info about that the forum is not available at this time.
So its clearly some wrong on the forum.

I honestly don’t understand why MikroTik continues to use phpBB, development is very slow and version 4 seems to have stalled for years…
Most phpBB users have switched to much more efficient open source alternatives like Flarum, SMF, Discourse, etc etc
Links to messages or old phpBB threads can be converted with a script to the new forum, so I don’t think this is the problem.

They probably have other priorities…

This has nothing to do with phpBB IMHO. Even static assets like https://forum.mikrotik.com/styles/canvas/theme/images/mikrotik_youtube_banner.jpg or https://forum.mikrotik.com/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif sometimes don’t load here at my side. Opening https://forum.mikrotik.com/styles/canvas/theme/images/mikrotik_youtube_banner.jpg in a dedicated tab loads the banner image normally.

Firefox says “NS_ERROR_NET_RESET”, Chromium “ERR_HTTP2_SERVER_REFUSED_STREAM”.

It seems that the forum is under some form of attack…
The past few days I regularly got the message that the forum is currently offline, try again in a couple of minutes.
As a Prosilver user I tried going to the profile page and selecting the other theme (forgot the name) and it shows a usable layout but also without icons.
And now I cannot find where to click to go back to the profile settings and select Prosilver again :frowning: :frowning:

Frankly, ALL forum software sucks! I am longing for the says when we had Usenet. That was SO MUCH BETTER.
Everyone decides what client to use, it did not depend on a single server, etc etc.

Considering how old Mikrotik is, why dont they have a usenet server? But I guess I know the answer: back in early 2000s PHP was the new kid on the block. The web was suddenly all PHP. phpBB got popular - so why mess around with decades old usenet? Now, 2025, still running phpBB, is now a legacy piece of history itself.

@Jotne Do you use any type of proxy ?

Yes, I just noticed the very same behaviour …

With usenet, you do not need a server. You need a newsgroup or set of newsgroups. Others provide the servers.
It would have been easy to create a number of alt.mikrotik.subgroup groups similar to what we have on the forum.
With more effort, groups could have been created elsewhere in the group tree.
Of course a private server and some peering with wellknown usenet providers would have been possible too.
The reason not to use usenet for some companies was that there is no moderation and no influence on what appears on the forum.

No proxy. And testet from various location using different computers.

Access to this forum is really weird for me on the last 2 weeks. Most of the times images are not loaded, and some even a “forum is in maintenance/offline” that, most of the times, just opens fine after one or two reloads.

Something is really happening, access to this forum is really weird for me (using Firefox only)

It may that some says that its overloaded by someone attacking it.

Now I get the same problem as @Jotne.

zero images loading, zero stylesheets loading… royally messed up yeah

Maybe we are the betatesters for the next MikroTik product, a server load balancer? (after the storage server)
The initial problem (sometimes forum not available) looked a bit like the connections are sent to different servers, but some of them are up and others are administratively down.
Now at the moment it looks like forum content is handled OK but requests for icons and stylesheets are forwarded to non-working servers…

I too have felt like this is a “CDN”-esque issue. In addition to the “forum not available” errors, the transmission time-outs, pages only loading halfway, etc. the other issue I’ve noticed is that I can log in, navigate to a page or thread, and be logged out again. Or reply to a post, and be presented with the login screen even though I was already logged in. Sometimes the login screen throws back an error, not about creds being invalid but something about invalid form (I’ll try to screenshot next time I see it), and on occasion it can take me 2-3 times to even log back in. I’m not mis-typing my password.

It’s like the cookies being stored by my browser for this site are not recognized by the forum server after it has issued them to me.
