PING issues

Hello, I have a weird issue, I have an RB1100x2, that I can not ping anything with over 512 bytes, Im not sure what’s causing it. I’m only looking in to it because one of my clients is complaining he can’t send out a ping with a 512 byte packet.

is this something I need to worry about? I all my other RB’s can ping w/ a 1024 byte packet just fine

Is the RouterBoard the only device in path?

I ask because there are a bunch of devices from companies like Netgear which drop pings greater than 512 bytes.

Well, I’m trying to ping from within the RB1100x2, which is directly connected to an RB450G, which is connected to another RB450G, and 2 RB493AH’s via 2 different bridged wifi links using Unbt products. NO matter where I try and ping to on the RB1100x2, It ‘times out’ when a ping is sent larger then 512, (and they seem to come back as corrupt when they are set to 512) however, I can go to the next in line RB450G, and I can ping anything on the ‘local’ side of the 450G, but the moment I try to ping the RB1100x2 with a packet over 512, it times out.

try to ping Your Chain of Devices. One by one. You should be able to ping at least 1500 bytes packages With fragment=no on a Ethernet.

PS, also check Your l2mtu value
