Plans for a new Hex?

Any plans for a new Hex? … let say with AL21400  .
What I miss in 4011 is a usb port and size … Actually the only reason why I not replace my home Hex is the lack of usb port in 4011, I’m use it for lte modem for backu link. I owned it from time of gr3 existence.

Also > 16 MB Flash

Makes remote firmware upgrades much easier to roll back and forward to.
I know the pandemic has been tough on R&D for companies but I’ve been really disappointed by Mikrotik on the router side of things. They seem to keep announcing products that I don’t have much interest in.
Most of us want to retire our CCR’s due to platform, soc limitations but we keep soldiering on with equipment that was announced in the early 2010’s

With the current chip shortage, I cant see a new hEX arriving until 2022.

Actually we talk about a new chip for Hex .. AL21400 or similar , but not similar to IPQ .. to much products with it … anyway , thanks !

The AL21400 runs far too hot for a hEX. It is more likely to be the Marvell SOC from the nRAY or possibly an IPQ.

Last think:
Nothing wrong with IPQ, just HEX as a device without wifi is more useful for VPN/IPSEC , current IPQ in ac2 for example provide the same ipsec performance as current HEX cpu, so I hope if a new HEX is planed to have more “power” for encryption tasks 1G+

btw .. new mAP with 1g eth / AC wifi - 5v usb power - same size as lite version

I have use case for upgraded CPU on HEX PoE for better VPN speed. Current HEX PoE gets 30 Mbit IPsec and 70 Mbit wireguard speed, but I could use more.

I’d love to see a hEX with a faster CPU to run CAKE at reasonable speeds. Say Marvell ARMADA 7020 or something else with a dual core Cortex-A72 (or better). 802.3af PoE powering and 2 x 2.5 Ghz ports would be a bonus. There does seem to be a lack of fast compact wired routers in the current market.
