The situation
I am new to Mikrotik and very confused. Ok this is what i plan to achieve :
We have 4MB total badwidth -(Yes i knw its small but this is what we have at the moment) . I will like to share this among 30 Users . Sometimes one user will eat up everything by downloading or watching Youtube videos.I will like a situation where i can set a certain bandwidth for each user . Enough for them to just surf the internet and send emails.
Question
I see everywhere people saying PCQ. What bandwidth limit do i set for 30 people utilizing 4MB . Or please could you advice me how to go about this and get it configured correctly?
QoS is an issue that is not so easy to implement. It is easy to reason about, “I want the internet to be fast even when Bob is online”. To do this properly, you’ll need to know alot about RouterOS (the software that powers MikroTik products). I have put together a series of posts about QoS here.
While it does not directly answer your exact question, it will teach you how to think about what you need done. Slow down, read slowly. You have a lot of learning to do. 4MB bandwidth is not very much to work with. In my script, you could set LEVEL_C_DOWN max-limit=3M. You’ll have to play around with it.
I really do have alot to learn from the look of things and alot of testing aswell. I was thinking about configuring simple queue and then use PCQ with rate of 128k , what do you think ?
