We have recently established a 47Km link on our WUG network and was wondering if anyone can provide me with tips/tweaks/ideas to get the link running as good as possible.
The hardware and configuration is as follow:
2x Dii F50 Pro Mini PCI
2x 30db Grid Antennas
Problem i have is that the link does not do as much data as i suspected it would, some minor tweaks i believe is needed. Running freq 5680 @ 20Mhz -76/-76 98/99 ccq Nstream
I have lowered the data rates to 24Mbps/24Mbps to up the ccq for this link, but a bandwidth test only gives me 8.0Mbps TX | 4.0Mbps RX on average. Does this link have any potential to do more or would this be very much suitable performance? I just need some advise on tweaking this.
I must say that i do not have much experience with very long links, and this makes it to be the first for our community network.
Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. Also please indicate if other info is needed
8+4=12Mbps aggregated for a 24Mbps connection rate link is to be expected. 50% real tcp througput in Mbps’s compared to the connection rate is normal. You can try one step higher rate but make sure it doesn’t lower the CCQ.
Further you can tweak the nstreme settings (frame length etc.) a bit to squeeze some extra mb’s over the link but d0n’t expect to get a lot more out of it.
If allowed you can try superchannel (40Mhz wide) or use 802.11n link with dual pol antenna’s.
have u tried Channel width 10 MHz with higher data rates… may be default. ROS 5.9 with rate selection as advanced. 8 mbps is good enough but may be u can take it to 10-12 mbps. If you can try 32 dbi grids or vertical pols. may be it can work better. I would also suggest freq. 5260, some cards work better on lower freq. channels instead of higher ones. They better the CCQ without tweaking the data rates.
