I currently have a routeros installed on a pc that I’m using to run my hotspot.
Someone came to set it up for me and even though i was charged for the routeros recently noticed on
a little more reading that it is an old version (3.30), which possibly means I paid for something that was pirated.
Now I want to get rid of that set up and replace it with a routerboard.
Currently, the one i can have access to is an RB 750. My question is if I buy the RB750, will it function fully for a hotspot?
I don’t know what will be involved. since it is not wireless i believe i have to connect a wireless router to it.
So if i have the RB750 and a wireless router is that all i will need to set up my hotspot?
Will i get the latest version of RouterOs?
You can use a RB 751-2Hnd and have a Routerboard running hotspot and a powerful Wifi Accesspoint.
Verify from Mikrotik for your PC License and if it is legitimate u can attach any AP to it to have a Wireless hotspot as well.
My typical usage doesn’t go beyond 20 users so I think that is more than enough concerning number of hotspot users.
the supplier only have RB750 and is expecting RB951-2N. I actually want to have the hotspot without a system unit dedicated entirely to RouterOs.
So far this is my understanding is, and I would like to know if I’m correct.
If I go for RB750, i can have routeros running if I connect a wireless router to one of the ethernet ports.
If i go for RB951-2n, it has a built in wireless AP so i wouldn’t need a wireless router attached to it.
More importantly, both routers have RouterOs built in so i don’t need to have a dedicated PC solely for routerOS.
However, i can still connect via winbox on any pc on the network.
I can have usermanager set up to generate vouchers on the router.
