Pls help - Can't ping

Hi, i can’t ping my external IP address from outside my network.. any ideas?

I have MT 2.8.16 with two NIC’s

One NIC is connected to my speedtouch 530 with IP 10.0.0.254
The Other NIC is connected to my Network with IP: 192.168.0.254

If i ping my External IP Address 83.235.253.xx from inside my Network i get ping replies.
If i ping the same IP from a pc outside my network… it’s doesn’t work..
Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

pls someone? i don’t care about the ping only.. i just want to allow all traffic from outside my network to my router so i can use Windows 2000 Terminal Services etc…

Please it’s urgent..

The ping is proabably not working from outside networks because most DSL routers are configured this way by default. You need to enable ping response and/or access to the speedtouch configuration interface from external networks.

Regarding accessing a host (Windows 2000 or any other) on your local network from outside, you need to configure the speedtouch for either port forwarding to the host you want to access or put that host in a DMZ (where all traffic originating from outside goes to a designated host).

Assumming your MT is configured as a router, rather than a bridge, you will need to do the same thing again on the MT, either port forward or foward all traffic with a 1:1 NAT rule. In this situation you are doing “double-NAT” where both the speedtouch and the MT are doing NAT. This is unnessary and can lead to problems with some applications. The best thing is to configure the ADSL modem to do “no-NAT” if this is possible with the speedtouch. The ADSL router will then just forward traffic to any public IP address assigned to you by your ISP.

'Hope that helps.
