PoE != 802.3af?

Hello!

I have a RB2011UiAS-HnD-IN that says it supports PoE, but when I plug in my Cisco SPA 504G that supports 802.3af it doesn’t power on. I see the port light up on the RB, but nothing on the Cisco. Is there something I need to do to the RB to make it function as 802.3.af?

Thanks!

You could sell it and buy a device that provides 802.3af

Really, each product flier tells you it supports something like PASSIVE PoE with voltage like the power supply voltage. Or if it is about PoE input it states something like PASSIVE PoE between 9 and 30V.
Now since 802.3af is defined as 48V to 52V and with this magical number 802.3, which you do not find on the product description, it is somehow clear that id DOES NOT support that one.

From the RB2011 page you provided the link to:

The RB2011Ui also has > passive PoE output capability > on the last port (ETH10), this means you can power another device just by connecting it over regular Ethernet cable

PoE in Yes
Supported input voltage > 8 V - 30 V

MT chose this solution because it keeps costs down hardware-wise. So there is no simple hack to solve this.
And there is nothing you can do about it, except changing the equipment or buying a 802.3af power injector.

DAAAAH, I was afraid of that. Oh well. I appreciate the detailed explanation!
