Is it possible to use the Poe in or port one of the hap ac2 only for power? And can port 2 be used for uplink from capsman?
I have a rb2011 as my main router and 2 ac2’s as access points.
And 1 is on Poe.Since port 10 of the 2011 is a 100mbps port. But the second line to the Poe ac2 is a 1000mbps connection. However can I use that 1000mbps link on port 2 so I will have more throughput over wifi?
The reception is great, I do think the 100mbps is killing it. And perhaps having a 1000mbps uplink would make it a little better
It is possible. Have ether1 on hAP ac2 completely unconfigured (i.e. not part of bridge, without IP address or DHCP client etc.). So it should not interfere with data traffic. PoE in should still work just fine.
However: ether10 on RB2011 is specified to output 510mA and if 24V power adapter is used this means slightly more than 12W. hAP ac2 has specified power consumption between 16W and 21W. So it may happen that under load (e.g. both wireless transmitters transmitting at full power) RB2011 won’t be able to sustain hAP ac2 and hAP ac2 will restart. If that happens and you don’t want to power hAP ac2 locally, you’ll have to use RBGPOE …
On the rb2011 I just added a Mikrotik gigabit Poe injector to a 1gbps port and this greatly improved the speed and reliability of the ac2 access point.
