Hi
I need advice, suggestion or an opinion, so please help me.
I need POE splitter or something so I can run one power cable from the source to the top of the building. On the top I would like to put more than one RB, how can I do that? (RB’s will be repeater), Can I share POE so I do not have to run more than one poe cable etc.
Thanks for all inputs
this is possible but you will need a strong power supply (45w), and I recommend only 48v, otherwise the amps will be to high for cat5.
Assuming you will doing something like connecting ether2 on MT1 to ether1 (with POE) on MT2, you will need a weatherproof box, three keystone punchdown cat 5 connectors and a three keystone surface mount box, also 4 telephone splice connectors like these
Downstairs. POE is normal.
Upstairs: Punch down your main cat5 but only the green and orange pairs to the first keystone.
Now take a 10 cm cat5 cable and punch just the green.gs and orange.os pairs on one end from the second keystone (prefer if this one is a different color), and on the other end to the third keystone jack.
Get a length of scrap cat5 about 20cm. pull out the brown and blue pairs, and cut to 2x 10cm pairs. use the telephone splice connectors to join each of the four wires to the matching color. i.e. join the brown lead from your main ethernet to the two 10cm brown wires, join the brownstripe to the two 10cm brownstripe. Then take one of the new leads and punch down one set of the blue and brown pairs to the first keystone with the rest of the wires from the main ethernet cable. Did you get that?
Ok now punch the remaining wires (you should have a twisted pair of brown.brs and blue.bs) to the third keystone.
Finally, use some out door patch cables, plug in keystone one to ether1 on MT1, keystone2 to ether2 on MT1, keystone3 to ether1 on MT2.
If you want to get fancy you could do something with diodes and voltage regulators to protect each devices, but someone else will have to instruct that.
Thanks so much, I’ll try this
