What is your preferred option for stepping down from 48V to 24V PoE?
Does MikroTik have a current product for reducing 48V PoE to 24V PoE?
We have several sites built only for 48V now. We’re starting to use the wAP LR9G, and it only accepts 24V input… so I’m looking for reasonable options. We’ve used the UniFi INS-3AF-I-G successfully, but wanted to ask here about preferred solutions.
I’ve previously heard examples of the UniFi outdoor version having problems that the indoor version does not have. I’m not sure if that was a temporary issue, or if it continues, but I suppose that is why I haven’t used their outdoor version yet.
I like the idea of the converter being outdoor (lower voltage drop running 48V most of the path), but I suppose having the converter inside reduces outdoor connections, and really minimally increases power consumption.
I checked back, and found a complaint about lightning being an issue, and repairs requiring climbs. I supposed this is another motivation to have the converter at the base or in the main enclosure (to ease repair if necessary).
The MikroTik unit doesn’t mention any surge suppression. I’ll check with them about that.
