Point to Multi-point question

What is the best method for a simple point to multi-point network with two wireless cards and one ether.
Gateway-router:
Ether1 is gateway connection
Wlan1 - 5.8ghz to connect to other routers
Wlan2 - 2.4ghz for clients to connect

Secondary Routers:
Wlan1 - 5.8ghz to connect with main router for client communications on Wlan2
wlan2 - 2.4ghz for clients to connect to internet

Is HWMPplus the best method for this setup, or should another protocol be used?

you have to share…
how many user may connect concurrently, distance from user to the AP and what’s the packages you plan to offer.

then only we can share with you what’s the other consideringpoint.

This setup will be used for a small apartment community with several different buildings, therefore there will be one Internet connection, connected to the main router via ether1.
-The internet connection must be shared with wlan1 at 5.8ghz which connects to other routers in the complex
-The internet connection must be shared with wlan2 at 2.4ghz which will allow clients in the building to connect to the Internet
-The secondary routers will be a similar setup without using ether1, but receiving an Internet connection through wlan1 at 5.8ghz and sharing it with wlan2 at 2.4ghz for clients to connect.

Any pointers? I’m not necessarily looking for a full guide to this (unless there is one out there, which I couldn’t find), but a general direction to go with.

You should do a site survey for your 2.4GHz client connections. Check and see if you will be able to cover the apartment building with only 1 AP.

My AP is on top of my 6 floor building and i can’t get any connection on 2nd floor. I can connect when i’m outside the building, even 150-200m away but there is no way to get the wireless signal in my room. I have my old wifi router in my room connected with cable so i can work with my laptop inside.

You don’t want clients disconnecting all the time it’s frustrating.

Nikola

It’s not a mid-rise building. It’s an apartment complex with about 6 buildings spread out over 1 square kilometer.
All buildings are brick and close together so it’s necessary to have separate routers spread out throughout the complex as long as all secondary routers have an LOS to the primary router with the internet connection, then the wlan2 card will act as the AP for all clients connecting at each ends of the buildings.

What is the best setup for this situation?
Should I just create WDS links between the primary and secondary routers on the wlan1 card @ 5.8 ghz and then bridge them with the wlan2 card @ 2.4ghz for client connections?

I got it working using a transparent bridge, which seems to be an appropriate setup the situation.

Is using a transparent bridge the best approach for this setup (Point to Multi-point)?
