Hello everybody!
I am new in this forum and I have a big problem: few days ago a contractor setup a point to point connection between two locations. At first everything was Ok, but the IP adresses wasn´t the right ones for my network. So I changed the IP address in the ether1 interface at both ends.
Since I changed addresses the radios can´t see each other.
For a better understanding:
Location A: original IP address: 132.10.251.221/24
Location B: original IP address: 132.10.251.222/24
Location A: new IP address: 132.10.251.221/16
Location B: new IP address: 132.10.251.222/16
I changed the IP addresses to the previous values (original ones) and they can´t se each other neither.
I am using a RB433 at each location and I use RouterOS WinBox v3.22
I am so sorry if is a very basic question but I need to solve this and I can´t figure out. The worst of all is that the contractor is out of the city for business.
If I need to start from scratch is no problem for me, but I have not idea how to setup the link between the radios.
I understand how it is to be under pressure without the knowledge. We have all been there at one time or another.
First, the IP address of the routerboard has nothing to do with the two radios being connected to each other. Depending on the configuration, the IP address is either used only for management (bridge mode) or else it is used for routing packets (routing mode).
Next, the only changes that you made were in the subnet mask. You still are using the same IPs. The /24 that your vendor put in is a legal subnet of your /16 network. This could have caused problems with reachability from inside your /16 network depending on the network design. Most experienced network designers wouldn’t design a flat /16 network without breaking it up into subnets and routing between them.
So are the radios really connecting to each other or do you have a routing problem? Go to the wireless menu, and see if you have more than one interface showing. If there are two, then your radios are connected to each other and you have a bridging or routing problem.
Since you just have enough knowledge about Mikrotik to be dangerous, are you sure you didn’t change anything else? Look under files and see if your installed had saved a backup that you could restore. This could be dangerous not knowing when the backup was made.
I would suggest that you find someone more experienced with Mikrotik to help you out of this trouble.
There is a list of Mikrotik consultants on their web site.
