Poor performance when using Groove A52HPn

dear all,

one of my client using RB800 with 1 wireless card + omni 15db outdoor antenna for his main AP.
this RB800 connected to RB1100AHx2 as main router.

when he decide to change the above RB800 with Groove A51HPn + omni 15db outdoor antenna, the performance suddenly drop; the connection mostly intermittent.

the total client serve are less then 20 devices (notebooks and gadgets).

the configuration between the above RB800 and Groove are exactly the same..
/interface bridge add name=bridge1 protocol-mode=rstp
/interface bridge port
add bridge=bridge1 interface=ether1
add bridge=bridge1 interface=wlan1
/interface wireless set [find name=wlan1] band=2ghz-b/g/n frequency=2412 mode=ap-bridge ssid=“Main AP” wds-default-bridge=bridge1 wds-mode=dynamic-mesh wireless-protocol=any disabled=no
/system identity set name=“Main AP”

why the performance suddently drop when he use groove ? is that because of different ram and or processor ?

tq

Paul

What exactly is worse?

the connection from all the devices to the groove seems to be ok. but the connection to the internet are intermittent.
when groove replaced with rb800+r52h, the intermittent disappear. so the problem should be on groove.

when groove restarted, the performance seems to be ok for the first 5 minutes only, the rest always intermittent; such as the page loads never finish.

Do you have connection tracking on? Switch it off. Uninstall all unnecessary packages to free some ram.

the conn-track is leave as default…
the package installed are only the necessaries…
gps, ups, userman, mpls, ntp, calea, hotspot, ppp are uninstalled

Paul

wireless-protocol=any
I think it should be 802.11

tq InoX for your response.
as we mentioned before, the problem was not from devices to groove, but from devices to the internet.

anyway, i talked to someone else yesterday and from our long discussion, he explain that :

  • the ethernet ports on rb1100ahx2 and rb800 are support 10/100/1000Mbps; support up to gigabits.
  • the ethernet port on groove only support 10/100Mbps; does not support gigabits.
  • even if the total traffic from the internet only 2Mbps, the conversion progress / auto-negotiation on rb1100ahx2 to groove make the delay.

solution :
he suggest to turn off the auto-negotiation on rb1100ahx2 when using groove and put the limit to 10/100; not 10/100/1000Mbps.

because, the performance only good for the first 5 minutes when groove restarted.

can anyone confirm the possibility of this solution ?

Than you

Paul

What amount of free ram do you see when problems occur? What throughput btest reports from 1100ahx2 to groove at that time? What speed the ports show?

sorry for late response…
a few weeks ago i had a chance to test the connectivity again even if by remote.
once the groove turned on, i found 30 subscribers connected into the divice (from /inter wire regi print)
than, all the connection from clients become intermittent.

here is the screen shot captured
groove as AP bridge.png
192.168.101.66 is the groove as AP wire connect with RB1100AHx2
192.168.101.67 is another groove as AP WDS
so the ping from groove to groove itself having too many time-out.

so i think the problem is from the groove wireless card itself that can not handle 30 clients at the same time.
