Poor wireless performance

Hey guys looking for a little guidance. I have a SXT connecting from across the street to a Groove. The grove has a OD58-12 antenna attached to it. The dB strength fluctuates around -71 to -78. It’s attaching and everything is working fine, I’m just worried about other installations that will be further away. Why from just across the street can I only see about -74? There are two trees between the two radios but I wouldn’t think that they would be that big of an issue. The nose level seems to be relay good so I’m at a loss. I am new to this also so hopefully I’m missing something.

Thanks.

Hi. I am no boffin but in my experience it is better to use 2.4GHz range when there is a obstucle in the why.

Yes 2.4 would be better to go through the trees but not with the interference in my area. With a longer shot I would definitely not use 5 with a couple trees but I was hoping that at such a short distance the 5GHz would punch through (it is but I thought it could do better). I’m wondering if there are power settings I can use to help.

Thanks.

2.4 should be good to pass thru trees. What is the noise level that u dont want to use 2.4 for just across the street.

How do you have the SXT mounted? What polarity is the antenna on the Groove?

Remember that Chain 0 on the SXT is horizontal polarity, not vertical.

Yes, the SXT is mounted horizontal as well at the groove which the antenna is also horizontal polarity.

Thanks.
