Port 80?

I am looking for a way to check to see if port 80 is working. Now bear with me on this one.

Customers are directed via firewall rule 0 to cache server, I have netwatch pinging the cache server and disables the firewall rule if the cache server is down. But sometimes the cache server responds to pings but http traffic doesnt make it thru the cache server. is there a way to do this? I could netwatch say google.com but its not going to come back to the cache server once it disables the rule. and wizards that understand my dilemma?

also the Dude could monitor this as well (although it may be a heavier solution then you want).

Dude is good option if you start to monitor your network and devices in it (routers, servers, switches) And it is considered to be good to know what is going on there..
