Port flapping issue related to fast path?

Hello,

A while ago I posted about link/no link issue when connecting to gigabit switches and rebooting the router usually resolved it. I was shut out by Mikrotik support after they offered a couple different fixes that didn’t work. I noticed that under the versions 5.27 in Bridge there isn’t fast path support, however in v 6 there is. By turning that off do you think that might help with the port flapping or is there anything else anyone can think of before I toss my Mikrotik boxes out the door? :frowning: :

Make sure your ethernet cables are correctly pinned out on all 8 connectors.
(gigabit uses all 4 pairs)

Are the switches Cisco switches?

No Cisco switches, although we’ve got some out there that also have this problem. We’ve swapped cables multiple times and still nothing. What are your thoughts on turning fast path off? These aren’t routers from MK, but customized boxes.

Well, my 2011 wouldn’t play nice with my cablemodem, and I ended up linking it with a 100Mbps interface.
(ok since my Internet’s only 50Mbps, but not a solution for you)

If I ever found a pair of ports that wouldn’t sync, if it wasn’t the cable, I’ve only ever been able to get it working by being lucky, I think. There’s only so many checkboxes to check and uncheck in a systematic fashion, yaknow?

I’ve read that some people mentioned to turn off auto negotiation. Testing by doing the fast path uncheck as well as forcing it through at 1GBPS.

In all fairness, I think I was running a later revision of v5, and the configuration options are different than they were then…
Maybe one day when I’m bored I’ll go move the cablemodem back to ether1 and see if I can make it play nice…
