Hello, i’m trying to get portwells lcd to work, but no luck. I have set the system lcd type to mtb-134, but no alphanumeric characters appear, although some weird characters do appear. What are the correct serial settings, maybe the fault is there…
they work…
just set the correct port…
set the correct driver, in console …
en port settings i use are
19200 8 N 1
and then select some stuff the display…
we also use all the portwell stuff for our MT routers…
they work perfect
Hei piwi3910,
we are using several different Portwell systems successfully too.
But one model - the NAR5060 - simply refuses to boot MikroTik. I can run about every other OS I can think of, but MikroTik simply does NOT boot. No matter if I use a IDE-DOM or the onboard CF slot.
Do you happen to have one of those, too?
Best regards,
Christian Meis
no haven’t tried that model yet…
these are the models we tried…
ps i love the NAR-5072 ones…
i do hope one day we could use the keys on the lcd screens to access custom scripts…
NAD-2040
NAD-2041
NAD-2043/2044
NAR-5020
NAR-5071
NAR-5072
ps we where thinking of buying a 5060, so thxs for the good advice…
CMIT.
If you disable USB on the 5060 in the BIOS it will boot. We had the same Problem. It can also have problems with the DMA settings.
Regards
Lee
cmit can you confirm this…
does the 5060 work with MT if you disable the usb…
then we know we can buy them…
Hei Lee - that did the trick, thanks a lot! ![]()
RouterOS is booting now. Never did try disabling USB, because I was working on the local console via a (necessarily) USB keyboard and installing from an USB CD-ROM drive…
So piwi- go ahead and buy them ![]()

I still have no luck with my 5071, i’ve set the /system lcd type to mtb-134 and some kind on weird stuff appears on the lcd, it doesn’t resemble amy character.
what version are you running?
2.9.25
Does anybody have a little howto on setting these up, we have just received our first Portwell unit with one on and would love to get the lcd working.
Garbage display is usualy a incorrect port setting..
Check CMOS for port settings IE porX on the system has what io settings, and make sure MikroTik uses the same settings.. also communication settings IE 9800,8,1…
Another one that bit me.. set handshake to none (at least try it)… I use crystal fontz (one of the several types I have played with) and it wants handshake turned off..
It sounds like the unit is doing some sort of port redirrect.. so turn off the usb port like it was sugested above..
Give this a try and drop a message if it does not fix..

I’m using a Portwell NAR-5060, and all i get is garbage on the screen. I’ve tried every port setting to no avail…
Here are my current configs:
/ port
set serial0 name=“serial0” baud-rate=115200 data-bits=8 parity=none
stop-bits=1 flow-control=hardware
set serial1 name=“serial1” baud-rate=19200 data-bits=8 parity=none stop-bits=1
flow-control=none
/ system lcd
set enabled=yes type=mtb-134 port=serial1 contrast=0
/ system lcd page
set time display-time=5s disabled=yes
set resources display-time=1s disabled=no
set uptime display-time=5s disabled=yes
set packets display-time=5s disabled=yes
set bits display-time=5s disabled=yes
set version display-time=5s disabled=yes
set PPPoE display-time=5s disabled=yes
set Backup display-time=5s disabled=yes
set ether3 display-time=5s disabled=yes
set ether4 display-time=5s disabled=yes
set LAN display-time=5s disabled=yes
set WAN display-time=5s disabled=yes
Any ideas? I don’t see the settings for “handshake” in RouterOS or in the CMOS/BIOS config…
Turn handshake off under ports.
(It was foobaring my crystal fonts lcd)
Usualy settings are 96,n,8,1
but could be 19200,n,8,1
Darn… my DOS is showing…
Remember this oldie bit “goodie” ?
mode com1: 96,n,8,1,p
mode lpt1: > com1:
Those were the days !!!
Ouch my brain hurts !!!
Things that make you go HMMMMMMM…
Craig
oh yeah!
But it doesnt seem to work with either
19200-8-N-1 (flow-control is set to none), 9600-8-N-1 (FC none as well)..
Any ideas..
I just get funky looking charactors…
Portwell emailed me the user guide for the EZIO LCD on the NAR 5060, port settings are:
2400-8-N-1
I’ll test and see if it works. I’m definately pleased with the portwell product and customer service thus far.

Where are you guys in the US getting these? I haven’t been able to locate them.
Thanks

Is anyone interested in LCD / VFD unitd for their MikroTiks?
I have come up with a design for both..
These are paralell port based so you dont use up a com port.
